Extension / Renovation - Wedderburn

This council-approved extension and renovation at 20 Lysaght Road, Wedderburn NSW, was carefully designed by MDNB to significantly enhance the size, functionality, and liveability of the existing dwelling, while maintaining strong compliance with local planning controls and neighbourhood character.

As illustrated in the external façade image, the proposal adopts a contemporary farmhouse architectural style, incorporating horizontal cladding, stacked stone elements, and a dark pitched roof form. The carefully proportioned elevations, central entry porch, and balanced roof geometry ensure the development sits comfortably within its rural-residential setting and integrates seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.

Internally, the images demonstrate a cohesive and refined design language, focused on light-filled spaces, clean white walls and ceilings, and warm timber finishes. The entry and main living areas feature high ceilings with exposed timber beams, creating a sense of openness and architectural presence while reinforcing the farmhouse character established externally.

The open-plan kitchen, dining, and living spaces, as shown in the images, form the heart of the home. The kitchen has been designed with a large central island, stone benchtops, contrasting cabinetry tones, and contemporary pendant lighting, delivering a functional and visually strong space that supports both everyday living and entertaining. Large glazed openings strengthen the connection between indoor and outdoor areas, consistent with the approved layout shown in the plans.

The master bedroom and ensuite, also depicted in the images, have been designed as a private retreat. The bedroom presents a calm and inviting atmosphere through neutral finishes, soft lighting, and direct access to outdoor spaces, while the ensuite showcases a freestanding bath, double vanity, stone finishes, and matte black fittings, achieving a hotel-style level of comfort without compromising practicality.

Throughout the project, careful consideration was given to council requirements, including building height, setbacks, privacy, overshadowing, and site responsiveness, as demonstrated in the approved plans, sections, elevations, and shadow diagrams prepared by MDNB 20 Lysaght Road (DA Lodgement P…. The design responds sensitively to the site’s scale and orientation, ensuring compliance while maximising internal amenity.
